Embark on an awe-inspiring 7-day journey along the Machame Route on Mount Kilimanjaro, a challenging and visually stunning trek. Starting from the lively town of Moshi, your adventure begins at the Machame Gate, where you enter the lush rainforests that define the Machame Route. As you steadily ascend through diverse landscapes, you’ll conquer the mighty Barranco Wall and tackle the Lava Tower, all while soaking in the unique beauty of the Machame Route.

Acclimatization on the Machame Route

Acclimatization is essential as you progress to Barafu Camp, the critical launching point for your summit bid on the Machame Route. At the stroke of midnight, you will begin the arduous ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro, to witness an unforgettable sunrise over the stunning landscape of the Machame Route.

Descent via the Machame Route

The descent along the Machame Route leads you through the captivating rainforest, culminating in your triumphant return to Moshi, where you can celebrate your extraordinary achievement on this remarkable trek along the Machame Route.

Activities:
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be welcomed by Bee Adventure Safari representatives. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, where you will meet your guide and trekking team for a briefing. Take this time to relax, enjoy a meal, and prepare for the trek. Overnight stay at your lodge.

Activities:
After registration at Machame Gate, begin your trek through lush rainforest. The trail gradually ascends through beautiful vegetation, allowing you to experience the vibrant flora and fauna of Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Machame Camp in the late afternoon, where you can relax and acclimatize. Enjoy dinner and a peaceful night in the rainforest.

Altitude: 3,000m (9,843 ft) to 3,850m (12,631 ft)
Distance: ~5 km (3.1 miles)
Approx. Time: 4-5 hours

Activities:
On Day 2, the trek continues through the moorland zone, with increasing views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit. As you climb, the vegetation changes, and you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Shira Plateau. Reach Shira Camp for a rest and take in the breathtaking surroundings. Use this time to acclimatize and hydrate.

Distance: ~10 km (6.2 miles)
Approx. Time: 6-8 hours

Activities:
Trek across the Shira Plateau, continuing towards the Lava Tower. The route gradually ascends and then descends to Barranco Camp. Along the way, you will witness dramatic landscapes, including volcanic rock formations and spectacular views of Kibo Peak. The descent allows for acclimatization while preparing you for the upcoming ascent. Enjoy dinner and rest at Barranco Camp, located beneath the iconic Barranco Wall.

Distance: ~6 km (3.7 miles)
Approx. Time: 4-5 hours

Activities:
The day begins with a thrilling climb up the Barranco Wall, a non-technical but challenging ascent that rewards you with fantastic panoramic views. After conquering the wall, continue on a scenic trek through ridges and valleys towards Karanga Camp. This camp offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, and it’s an excellent place to rest and acclimatize for the final push.

Altitude: 4,035m (13,238 ft) to 4,640m (15,223 ft)
Distance: ~4 km (2.5 miles)
Approx. Time: 3-4 hours

Activities:
Today’s trek is relatively short but steep as you ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. The camp sits at the foot of the summit cone, providing incredible views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit. Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and preparing for the challenging summit night ahead.

Altitude: 4,640m (15,223 ft) to 5,895m (19,341 ft), then down to 3,080m (10,105 ft)
Distance: ~17 km (10.6 miles)
Approx. Time: 10-14 hours

Activities:
The summit attempt begins in the early hours of the morning. After a challenging climb through the night, you will reach Stella Point at sunrise and continue to the summit of Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. Take in the awe-inspiring views and celebrate your achievement. Afterward, descend to Barafu Camp for a brief rest, then continue your descent to Mweka Camp for an overnight stay, reflecting on your summit success.

Distance: ~10 km (6.2 miles)
Approx. Time: 3-4 hours

Activities:
The final day of your trek takes you through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. This section is gentle, providing a chance to reflect on your incredible journey. At the gate, you will receive your summit certificates, and then a transfer will take you back to Arusha or Moshi for a celebration and well-deserved rest at your lodge or hotel.
